Dignity for All Students Act
The Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) became effective on July 1, 2012. It was established with the broad legislative intent to provide a school environment free of discrimination and harassment. As a result, our Guidance and Administrative staff have helped the Board of Education develop policies and guidelines to create a school environment that is free from discrimination or harassment.
We work purposefully to raise awareness and sensitivity of our school employees and students to potential discrimination or harassment/bullying issues and to enable everyone to help prevent and properly respond to discrimination or harassment/bullying.
All concerns or issues about harrassment or bullying, should be immediately reported to Eric Schenone, Middle School Principal or Patricia Siano, Dean of Discipline.
Students and parents can use this form to report any incident they would like investigated.
Common Core Standards
We have posted some new information below regarding the (new) Common Core Standards. "The Common Core State Standards ask teachers to make 12 major “shifts” or (changes) in their classrooms – six shifts in English language arts and six shifts in Mathematics. These changes may be tough at first as students and teachers adjust to higher expectations. As a parent, you can help and learn more by talking with your child about what they are learning. Ask open-ended questions about what they learned in school each day, read their homework and attend school events to learn about what their teachers expect." Please check out the link below.
Understanding STAR Reports
As you know, our district is using a new progress monitoring tool this year for ELA and Math. We have sent home two reports, so far, to give parents an update on the progress is making. At first glance, the reports can be confusing to understand (parents and teachers). With that in mind, please click here if you would like additional information about these reports.
Understanding Engage Reports
Each year, our 8th graders take an online survey. ENGAGE Grades 6–9 is a survey from ACT to help identify strengths and needs for several skills that are related to earning good grades and graduating from high school. We use these reports as part of the guidance plan to make sure we are preparing students for graduation from high school with a plan to become college and/or career ready. If you would like more information about how to understand these reports, please click here.
